A 9-FL with fixturing. The piece on the end of the center bar is used to register the part and hold it squarely when the fixture is closed. The last 1 in. of the 9-FL, 9-PA, 2-FL and 2-PA center bar is left soft. This allows for end attachments or machining. The rest of the center bar is hardened. The center bar is free to rotate.
Two 2-FLs with fixturing, closed on two parts. Notice the contact dowels on the left side of the block at the end of the center bar. The part (casting) has a slight burr around its edge.
One can just barely make out a vertical support dowel under the left corner of the part in the foreground. Keeping the part up off the fixture allows for chip clearance.
Four 2-FLs with fixturing. The knobs on the end of the center bars have been replaced by discs. A tool is used to pry back the center bar and v-blocks to load the part. The springs hold the part in place before the locking lever is closed. The dowels on either side of the v-block keep the v-block aligned properly.
